The 2020 strategy was replaced in November 2023 by the 2023-2030 Australian Cyber Security Strategy.

Australia’s Cyber Security Strategy 2020 was the Australian Government's vision to create a more secure online world for Australians, their businesses and essential services.

    The Action Plan specified actions by government, business, and the community, detailing the following initiatives:

  • Protect critical infrastructure in a national emergency

  • Enhance incident response procedures

  • Bolster law enforcement capabilities, including on the dark web

  • Harden Australian Government IT

  • Improve threat information sharing

  • Uphold existing international law and norms of responsibility state behaviour in cyberspace 

  • Strengthen cyber security partnerships

  • Clarify cyber security obligations for Australian businesses

  • Stay ahead of the technology curve

  • Improve baseline security for critical infrastructure

  • Uplift the cyber security of SMEs

  • Create a more secure Internet of Things

  • Grow a skilled workforce

  • Block threats automatically

  • Access guidance and information on cyber security 

  • Access help and support when needed

  • Make informed purchasing decisions
