Identity Management Business policy (Position)

Policy Requirements

  • Use accredited providers through the Services Australia Identity Exchange under the Trusted Digital Identity Framework (TDIF) when verifying identity of Australian businesses or their authorised representatives

  • Avoid investment in new identity capabilities that are available as existing government assets

  • Ensure best practices are applied in building digital services

Designs

The following designs can be relevant to meeting the requirements of this policy.
When fully established, ABRS will bring together the Australian Business Register (ABR) and more than 30 Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) registers in one place.
BAM enabled agencies to accept user authentication with a myGovID and a RAM business authorisation for their portal, without the need to significantly reconfigure their portal. BAM has been replaced by the Services Australia Identity Exchange.
As part of the Modernising Business agenda the ATO has implemented a director identification number (director ID). Business operators can apply for a director ID through the ABRS online services platform
RAM provides the capability to maintain whole-of-government (WofG) relationships between parties, where those relationships confer a form of access privilege. RAM is maintained by the ATO as a part of the Australian Government Digital ID System.
