Nine elements of best practice reporting for digital projects

Nine elements of best practice reporting for digital projects provides practical guidance and templates to support good project governance of digital projects through effective, consistent and transparent reporting.

How it can be used

This guide has been developed to reflect recognised best practice in project delivery reporting and is aligned with the principles and reporting requirements of the Project Data Reporting Standard (PDRS). The guide and associated templates are provided as optional resources and may be used at the discretion of agencies.

Endorsed by the Digital Leadership Committee (DLC) in November 2025, the PDRS provides the recommended approach for project data reporting across digital projects under the Digital Transformation Agency’s (DTA) oversight arrangements. By adopting a "tell us once" approach, the PDRS reduces reporting burden by drawing on information already captured through agency governance and reporting processes. This guidance complements that approach by assisting agencies to present key project delivery information in their format to support consistent reporting and informed decision-making.

The guidance may assist agencies to:

  • align with the best practice principles underpinning the PDRS
  • establish a consistent approach to project and program reporting across government
  • improve the quality, transparency and comparability of project reporting
  • support executive, governance board and assurance reporting requirements
  • provide decision-makers with timely, relevant and reliable project delivery information.
