Digital reuse policy to be updated

The Australian Government will revise its Digital and ICT reuse policy in the second half of 2026.

Changes to the policy will strengthen the requirements for agencies to reuse existing and mature digital assets.

Reuse can help government:

  • reduce duplication across its digital estate
  • increase value for money from digital investments
  • improve the quality, interoperability and consistency of government services.

What this means for agencies

Agencies will need to assess whether they can reuse any of the government’s existing digital and ICT assets before developing a new one.

Agencies may need an exemption if they want to deliver an alternative asset to one that is mandated by the policy.

The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) is assessing which existing assets should be mandated under the policy.

Get involved in shaping reuse

The DTA is working with stakeholders across government to:

  • design the reuse policy changes and exemption processes
  • inform the list of assets proposed for mandatory reuse.

To get involved in the consultation, contact the digital policy team a policy@dta.gov.au.
